Cooking can be a delightful experience, but it often comes with its challenges—whether it’s speeding up meal prep, keeping your kitchen organized, or avoiding common cooking mishaps. That’s where kitchen hacks come in!

These simple, creative tips and tricks can save you time, reduce waste, and even elevate your cooking skills. Whether you're a seasoned chef or a beginner in the kitchen, our top ten kitchen hacks will make your time in the kitchen smoother, smarter, and a lot more enjoyable. Let’s dive into these game-changing ideas that will make you wonder how you ever cooked without them!

  • If your fresh herbs are starting to go over, chop them and put them in an ice cube tray, cover with olive oil and freeze. Just take one out when you need to add fresh herbs to a dish you are cooking and drop it in!

  • Making bread crumbs, the no waste way. Each time you have left over stale bread, whizz it in a food processor and put it in the freezer. If you do this each time you get to the end of a loaf and keep adding it to the original bag you will soon have a bag of frozen breadcrumbs and you can take out as much or as little as needed!

  • Meat balls, making meatballs can be a sticky messy job but if you wet your hands before you start rolling the mince it doesn’t stick and you get perfect meatballs!

  • To get the maximum juice out of a lemon, first pop it in the microwave for 7 to 10 seconds and then roll it with the palm of your hand up and down the counter top. Now juice it and you will find you get so much more out of it.

  • If your runny honey has crystallized, take the lid off and pop the jar in the microwave for a few seconds.Or stand the jar in a bowl of warm water.

  • If you're making crudités or a salad ahead of time and you don’t want it to go droopy, place a damp piece of kitchen towel over it and them cling film.

  • If you're cooking minced meat and you don’t want it to be lumpy, use a potato masher to press it to get a finer texture.

  • If your chopping board is sliding on the countertop, pop a damp piece of kitchen roll under it.

  • To peel garlic easier, cut the root end off and soak the cloves in warm water for a few minutes and the skins will slide off!

  • Freeze whole fresh ginger and when you need to use it just take it out and grate it straight from the freezer, put back what you don’t use and that way there is no waste and you always have fresh ginger to hand!

With these ten kitchen hacks in your culinary toolkit, you’ll be able to streamline your cooking process and take your meals to the next level with ease. From saving time on prep work to simplifying daily kitchen tasks, these tips are all about making your kitchen experience more enjoyable and efficient. So, the next time you’re whipping up a meal, remember these hacks to help you cook smarter, not harder. Happy cooking!
