How To Stay Motivated To Work Out

This is a collaborative post.

Training is not easy. When you've got a lot going on and the kids are going back to school and you're trying to keep up with your job, the idea of finding any time for exercise can feel laughable. Finding the motivation to work out is not easy either. But do you really need motivation to keep you going?

Learning how to stay motivated to continue to exercise and look after yourself take some time, but you have to put yourself first sometimes there are plenty of ways that you can pump yourself up for training, taking yourself shopping for new athletic gear, buying a refurbished Apple Watch Ultra to spur you one, and even going out on a limb to join a gym can help you to feel like if you're spending money on it then you should be following through. Let's take a look at how you can stay on track to meet your training goals when you find yourself losing the motivation.

  1. Write down what your goals are. Every single time you set goals for yourself, both in your personal and your professional life, those goals should be specific and achievable. Writing them down helps you to visualize your goals better, and pinning them up somewhere that you can see them every day will help you to stay accountable. If you write down what your goals are, you're more likely to put them down as more than just dreams in your head. Whether your goals are to run a 5K race or your goals are to fit into those size 12 jeans you once bought, there are plenty of goals that you should be able to write down and feel comfortable with.

  2. Track your progress. It's all well and good to write the goals down, but are you meeting those expectations that you set for yourself? By monitoring your progress, you'll be able to see what improvements you're making, and it gives you something to look back on. It's always nice to see how far you've come. So whether you're ticking off how many workout days you do on your calendar, or you're ticking off how many times you stuck to your calorie deficit, make sure that you're tracking that progress so that you can see actionable changes.

  3. Put a plan in place. Once you have your goals and you want something to measure, think about how you're going to implement that plan. If you plan to run three times a week, then make sure that you're running three times a week. Not once, not twice, but three! Channel your energy to where it's needed and make space for the goals that you have.

  4. Share with other people. Often it's knowing that other people are watching to see how you do that keeps you motivated moving forward. Keeping people up to date about your progress will also add that layer of accountability that you've been looking for. It works as an extra incentive to stay on track. And whether you do this in real life or you do it online, just be mindful.any potential negative feedback and how you're going to be able to absorb that. This is especially the case if you decide to document that journey of yours on social media.

  5. Hire a personal trainer. A great way to stay motivated is to hire somebody to push that motivation for you. If you're lacking confidence in the gym or you have hit a plateau with your weight loss, hiring a personal trainer to give you some professional guidance and that motivational push can really be a boost. A good personal trainer will work to hold you accountable, offer you motivation, and help you through any blockages you're having that are stopping you from working out, such as self sabotage.

  6. Find a new club. Boredom can really kill motivation so instead of just pounding the pavement and going for a run, why don't you find a new club to join? A dancing class and exercise class or even finding a way to feel more inspired with a sports team can help you to feel pushed forward.

  7. Don't go it alone. Solo training can be lonely and it can be tough. But if you're struggling to maintain some consistency or you're feeling like you're not exercising as much as you could be, having somebody with you can make a big difference. You can compete together and work together to achieve those goals that you set out.
